"Bombs explode... that's what they do."

I got back a day ago from Phoenix, and it was a crazy, busy, cool as heck weekend. Daniel and I had our table at the Cactus con, and it sparked alot of positive things. We sold a bunch of books and prints, we met alot of very cool comic fans and we made some good friends among the fellow comic creators who were there. We also found out that KING's myspace page is like gasoline on a stick of TNT, in that so many people who found us were looking for us through that page...

It's looking more and more like KING! will soon be picked up by someone major, too. We'll keep you posted.

A Space for Everyone

KING! is in full swing- The books will be picked up today, and King himself has been a very busy guy as of late, pimping out his adventures in cyberspace. Check out his Comicspace page, or if you want to know a little more about the royal monster slayer, go to his Myspace page. He'll be racking up the chicks in no time...

A Loss for Words

Ahead of even the most agressive schedule I could imagine, I recieved the proof copies of KING! tonight, and I really don't have the words to describe what I think about the job the printer has done so far. Every aspect of the printing is of a quality that is just beautiful- I am seriously having issues coping with the idea that I wrote something that has turned out this fantastic. Obviously, Daniel's artwork and his skill with preparing the pre-press files were critical, but the printer has exceeded any and all of my expectations. I'm picking up the finished books on Friday (yes- THIS Friday) and I'll let you know all the ways you can get a piece of the comic book goodness...

The Evolution of Cool

When Daniel and I started working on Enlightenment, it quickly became a complex and meticulously researched story, with almost every detail added with some purpose by design. Everything means something, even if that meaning is minor or obscure... It's both fun and exhausting to write at the same time, and working on the second installment has been more like composing a Doctoral Thesis than putting together a comic book.

KING!, on the other hand, is a pure, almost mindless joy to write. Athough I can't ever get away from the odd bit of extemporania finding it's way into the script, I am finding that this is both the most free writing I've done so far in comics as well as the most collaborative I've been with the script. In the past, I've taken my role as "The Writer" a bit too seriously in a way, and I have weighed any proposals for changes heavily against the greater goals of the piece. In this case, I'm all for anything that works regardless of how that idea came to be.

It's a good place to create from- it doesn't suit every project or work with every dynamic between artist and writer, but for KING!, it's been gold.

"...though a whole new door"

It's been an eventful weekend so far; I found out that I'm absolutely going to the Phoenix ComiCon January 27th & 28th, that (barring anything unforseen) We will have copies of KING! to offer to the fanboy masses, and that something verrrrrrry cool may be brewing with Enlightenment.

I can elaborate on the first 2 events- Daniel and I will be at table A7 in heart of the small press section of the con. Aside from a small handful of Enlightenment Previews that we still have on hand, We will have some extremely cool, very nicely produced KING! lithographs and (again- barring some catastrophe) a good supply of KING! books. The printer we have chosen is first rate, and the books will be full color, squarebound and just plain sweet to hold in your hand and read...

As for the third event- While I can't talk about it this moment, I will have some VERY exciting news to drop on you sometime early in February.

Till then- Try to plan a trip to Phoenix at the end of the month and say hi to us...

O frabjous day!

I got the coolest thing today- the FINISHED pages for KING!... all of them, baby! You can't see the little happy dance I'm doing, but I assure you it is both energetic and completely devoid of any form of rhythm or physical coordination whatsoever. In fact, the best thing I can liken it to is falling down 3 flights of stairs... except less graceful.

If everything works the way it should, we'll have books printed soon.

Stay tuned....

Cactus: A Sticky Stuation!

If you have been reading my Blog (which I haven't updated in a while- sorry) you'll know about KING!, a new book that Daniel and I have ben working on. What you may not know, however, is that we plan on unveiling it at the Phoenix Cactus Comicon later this month. We are still going to pitch it for publication with a couple of publishers that we think will get what to do with a book this odd, but we want people to see how freaky-deaky cool it has been coming out. If all goes right, we will have books available as well as uber-cool lithographs and some leftover copies of the super rare Enlightenment Preview in hairy-scary B&W.

Daniel will absolutely be there- my attendance will be work schedule permitting...

Stay tuned for details!
