Today has wings...

Listening to the new album by Edison Glass; It's got an early Police/Mars Volta thing going on with a bit of The White Stripes thrown in- perfect for writing on a Saturday afternoon.

Technically speaking, I'm done with the script for Enlightenment: the devil you know, and I have been for some time. Daniel has it, and he's been working hard to complete everything. I still have a few loose ends to tie up, though- a couple of friends are doing something special for me with some dialogue (I could tell you what, but then I'd have to kill you) and I am wrapping up a package of photo reference for some of the more particular aspects of the story to send to Dan. I have all the material, so you'd think THAT would be a no-brainer. Problem is, I have SO much stuff that organizing it has been taking me hours upon hours...

I've got to get back to the grind. In the meantime, enjoy another picture of Green...

Reach for the Bronze!

I mentioned a little while back that I was involved with the guys from Megazeen in a competition called the Comics Jam War; Today, they announced the winners, and we came in 3rd taking the Bronze. In all seriousness, I've never been happier to place in a competition than I am today, because the guys I worked with are such top notch people. It's not easy to place in a contest with over 100 teams joining in the mayhem, so we are all estatic about the results...

Special props to New Moon Comics for sponsoring us- you guys are the dizzle fo shizzle.

It's all done with Smoke & Mirror...

Daniel is having a busy year- not only is he cranking along on Enlightenment: the devil you know but he's also doing a Superhero comics for Markosia called Smoke & Mirror. Personally, I'm not much of a traditional Superhero comics fan, but between the writing on this book and Dan's art, it's going to be off the hook. Check out the pages here, here and here to see what I mean. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy...

Automata for the people

Daniel was interviewed in Automata 9.0, a print zine put out by flaming fish music. The interview is somewhat dated, because it was done before we knew anything about Markosia, but it's still a good read with alot of info. Dan also did the way cool cover, which I like as much as his cover for Smoke & Mirror that you can see here. Check out the new flaming fish store here to buy a copy of Automata and bask in the love...

What IS Enlightenment?

I am often asked to explain what our new graphic novel series is all about. In a nutshell, here's what you can expect:

Enlightenment is the story of Nadia Green, a young detective tracking down a serial killer with a penchant for removing the bones of his victims. In her search for this sadistic murderer, Green finds herself confronted with a supernatural evil which opens her eyes to the horrifying realities of the Spiritual world; a reality that will change her life forever.

Green's visions are similar to what is depicted in prophetic writings of the Biblical book of Revelation, filled with dreamlike symbolic images and monstrous beasts. Guiding Green though this overwhelming world is her uncle, Aaron Darby, a member of a secret society of demon hunters know as “The Brotherhood of Jonah,” who seek out confrontations with evil spiritual forces in an attempt to keep the world from coming to a terrifying end.

I hope that helps....

In with a BANG!

Inspiration for Enlightenment: the devil you know has come from a wide variety of places. Take for example this story- European frogs have been exploding in droves! They seem normal, but according to BBC sources, the frogs in some ponds are bursting and launching entrails 3 feet in every direction. And not one or two, mind you, but THOUSANDS of them! Stranger than fiction, this odd piece of science fact became an integral part of our story. How, you ask? Well, you'll just have to read it for yourself, now... won't you?

Read all about it!

In writing Enlightenment: the devil you know, I have found that researching the ideas and situations behind the story has been alot of fun. I've gotten to read alot of material that the adverage person doesn't normally pick up and I've found that I'm becoming well versed in a variety of topics. For anyone who likes picking up a good non-fiction book, I'd like to make some recommendations of stuff I've read in putting my script together.

First of all, I'd say that Hostage to the Devil by Malachi Martin is an awesome read; For a non-fiction book, it reads better than most novels and it's absolutely gripping from start to finish.

Demons in the World Today by Merrill F. Unger is another good scholarly book- not a case study like Hostage but very engrosing in it''s own right.

Finally, when all else fails, check put The Bible; It couldn't hurt, and it might just save your life in a dark alley....

Jam War a Go-Go!

On Saturday, April 1, I participated as a writer for the Comics Jam War competition. Our goal? To write, pencil, ink, scan, and letter a complete 8 page comic in 12 hours. If we were going to put out something sucky, that would have been an easy task, but the folks from Megazeen and I wanted to kick a little butt and make a good case for the win. I haven't seen all the comics, but ours was dang funny and the art was as good as anyone could hope for. Check out the New Moon comics jam site here for pictures of our motley gang in action.
