Hit me with your best shot

It's nice to look in my e-mail inbox these days, because the love of all things KING! is really in the air. Maybe it's left over from Valentines day, or maybe the book is just want people want to read these days. Either way, it's nice.

PinkRaygun.com just reviewed KING!, and say, "I want King to be my grandpa."

The Comics Review says, "It could be the start of a hit series."

Broken Frontier says, "
Since I have been reviewing books only a handful have really gotten my heart racing like this one... King! is destined for greatness."

All the reviews aren't even in yet, and it all seems good for our hunk of burning love...

Weapon of Choice

When Daniel and I were at the Phoenix Comic Con last month, we met a couple of people from a new website called Pink Raygun. We chatted with them about KING! & they really liked it- so much so that they wanted to interview us for the site. Check it out here as part of their small press roundup.

Luckily, we don't sound like total dorks...

How that happened, I'll never know.

Rockin' in the Free World

KING! has been striking a cord with people in ways that have taken us by surprise. Those of you who like the book seem to REALLY dig it, and that makes us smile. Pros that have scoped out King's adventures have all seen something to love in the book as well, and that's also a nice feeling. We weren't sure, however, what critics were going to do with our book. KING! is a strong book, in that it has a very emphatic focus- it's as subtile about the kind of book it wants to be as a hammer to the melon. Would reviewers like talking human hearts, zombies, bananna burritos and Elvis all in the same book?

Check out what The Comics Review said about us, or what was written about KING! at Broken Frontier.

I guess we are on to something after all...

Talking Behind My Back

Working on KING! has been a surprising ride so far; Not that I thought the book wouldn't Rock and rock hard... But I never figured it would strike the cord that it did. The people that love KING! really seem to LOVE it- we're showing up on Myspace top 8's like we were Kat Von D or something, and people are talking about KING! to anyone who will listen. Pro comic book people are sending us some love too- here's a little sample of what turns up in our inbox:

"The King is back, and he's kicking zombie ass! One of the most absurdly fun comics I've ever read."
Dan Wickline (Writer, "30 Days of Night: Spreading the Disease")

“Dude! I read the book. It BLEW MY MIND!!! Great stuff.”
Jose L. Torres (Writer, "The Hunger")

...Yo' KING!!! KICKS ASS, love your book...looKING to see more...
A New Fan
Tone Rodriguez (Artist, "UTF," "The Coven," "Conan")

"Masterfully combines the absurd monster-bashing action of 1960's Mexican Wrestler movies with the knowing wit and winks of an Abbott and Costello horror spoof!"
Paul Castiglia (writer, "Archie's Weird Mysteries," "Tex Avery Comics")

And there are tons more... to the point where I'm almost a little embarrassed to open my mail anymore.

Guess I better get used to it: What else should I expect when I hang with the King?

A Recap of the Dilly-O

Alot has been happening with me in a creative sense, and I wanted to sum up it all for those of you keeping score.

Our self published preview issue of KING! is available now- you can get it from our website here, from the Megazeen sponsored site here or from you comic shop if they are cool. Our site also carries a cool Lithograph, so you might want to check that out as well.

Daniel and I were interviewed about KING! at the Cactus Con for a major Comics web site, and our book is going to be reviewed by several sites- when those all get posted, I'll list them here too.

As I mentioned before, KING! has his own Myspace page, which is becoming quite the hot little piece of hub-bub. There you'll find some pages from the book, cover shots and anything else we can stuff into the thing without making it load like a slug. The big guy loves making friends, so please friend him if you have an account.

KING!'s Comicspace page isn't as impressive, but if you are into Comicspace, go for it.

The rest of the KING! mini series is written, and the art for issue 2 is underway, so we are on a pretty solid schedule in bringing you more adventures with the Man himself. We are exploring publishing options we have, so we don't know yet if that issue will also be self published or if it will be carried by a solid Indy publisher. Either way- you'll hear it hear first.

As for Enlightenment- That is also being worked on as we speak. We still don't have any solid release date, but Daniel and I are shooting for something so that it will be available in San Diego for this years convention. Again, we'll keep you posted.

Other than that- I'm trying to get everything done and still get enough sleep at night, but as one famous person was once quoted, "Sleep is for the dead... unless the dead is the living dead, in which case it's not for them either..."
